GORDON SHEARD & SINAL ABERTO perform classics of the  Brazilian popular song tradition (featured composers include A. C. Jobim, Chico Buarque, Gilberto Gil, and many others), as well as vibrant original compositions that reflect the band’s diverse musical roots, as vividly represented on their recent release A New Day.

Formed in 2009, Sinal Aberto’s members number among Canada’s top musicians. Pianist, composer, and leader GORDON SHEARD has been a member of Manteca, Rick Shadrach Lazar and The Montuno Police, and the bands of Chuck Mangione, Alain Caron, and Liona Boyd.  He is the Head of Composition in Humber College’s prestigious music program.

Rio de Janeiro-born vocalist LUANDA JONES has performed in concerts and festivals throughout Brazil, and has made a significant mark on the Canadian musical scene since her arrival in Toronto in 2005.  In addition to performing with Sinal Aberto and her own trio, Luanda has shared the stage with luminaries such as Guido Basso, Guinga, Benjamim Taubkin, and Fred Martins.

MARK KELSO, Head of Percussion at Humber College, is one of Canada’s most in-demand drummers for both live performances and recording. A very small sampling of the very many high-profile musicians he has performed with includes Gino Vannelli, Michael Bublé, and Holly Cole.

Bassist, composer, and producer GEORGE KOLLER is also a first-call musician whose performing and recording credits includes a long list of first-rate International and Canadian talent, including Peter Gabriel, Holly Cole, Loreena McKennitt, Ian Tyson, David Clayton-Thomas, Phil Woods, The Shuffle Demons, Olivia Newton-John, Chaka Khan, Eddie Harris, and numerous others.
